I had high expectations for this tour given Rocio’s qualifications and the other reviews I read, but her tour exceeded them! Rocio is an expert in Poblano food and culture,… read more and she’s also really personable, hilarious, and a great listener. I learned so much and gained even more appreciation for this part of Mexico and its rich history…as well as the history of the entire world since cultural influences on this food are that wide-ranging (wow). The food we tried was wonderful and well-chosen. I’m vegetarian and ate very well đ

Rocio is absolutely amazing. We spent four hours with her several days ago touring Puebla and have already returned to two of the places she took us to. Her depth… read more of knowledge and passion about the culture of her city and country, as well has her clearly well thought-out tour and choices of places to stop for a bite to eat make this experience far far above average. I highly recommend doing this tour early in your stay because you will be stuffed by the midway point and will want to return to many of the places she takes you. The tour with Rocio was much more than an eating tour. Rocio is a hightly skills, passionnate and generous person. She made the tour only for me with less than 12 hours notice. We spend the whole day together. After 4 days in Puebla she made me see the city completly with new eyes, giving me keys the understand better my visits. As for the food, it is not gastronomy but it will open your mind – and your mouth – to better experience mexicain and poblano culinaryâs culture. I highly recommand this tour right at the begening of your trip to better benefit from it. It is expansive but it worth the price if your interested in more than simple tacos! Thank you, Rocio!

Come hungry! There is more food than we could eat and that was packaged up for the ride home. My only regret is that I wish we had allotted more time than we did – four hours goes by very quickly and Rocio seemed ready for more. Weâll just have to come back for more!David

March 30, 2023This tour goes above and beyond! When we booked our trip to Puebla we happened upon a culinary food tour hosted by Rocio Caravajal. We researched it and discovered that… read more Rocio had a podcast called âPass the Chipotleâ where she does in depth talks that combine anthropology, history and gastronomy. After listening to about a dozen podcasts we booked her food tour. My partner and I have a love of anthropology, history, Pre-Hispanic Meso America and also how agriculture and trading shaped Meso American culture into what it is today. If you think that the best way to understand another culture is through its food then this tour is for you and you must book this tour. Donât think this tour is a boring academic lecture because nothing could be further from the truth; it is FUN!!! And the food she provides (all included with the cost ) is so amazing especially when you hear Rocio tell you about why she chooses the places that she does. Everything about Puebla is represented here from the tortillas, the Pulque, the Cemitas, the Tacos Arabes, the pan de aqua and of course the MolĂ© and the Pipian. Rocio is a proud Poblano and wants to tell you all about Puebla; sheâs utterly charming, full of humor and has strong opinions ( in a good way) In my opinion, you should book this tour on your first day in Puebla because Rocio explains everything about how Puebla came to be that it will give you a template for the rest of your trip of places you want to do a deeper dive. I cannot say enough about this gem of Puebla that is Rocio Carvajal. This tour is not for everyone; if youâre just here for partying and eating tacos book an amateur tour guide as they are plenty – but if you really want to understand the world view from the mouth of an erudite intellectual that can explain the intersectionality of history, anthropology and gastronomy then Rocio is the only guide youâll ever need.

This isnât just some âtry cool foodsâ food your. This tour can change your perspective on Mexican history, art, politics, economics, food, and indeed life itself.
Itâs so much more… read more than a food tour. And thatâs mostly because of Rocio! Sheâs smart, funny, and delightfully cheeky. Itâs clear that she knows the backstory to anything you can see in Puebla, and brings a wealth of historical, gastronomic, philosophical, and socioeconomic insights. Think of it as hiring a professor to walk you around town. But one of those really cool college professors that isnât afraid to have a drink with her students.
And on top of it all, yes, the food is amazing! Even if you fancy yourself a Mexican food expert (and trust me, youâre not – I thought I was), you are guaranteed to learn more and think more deeply about the food after this experience.
So if you want to be amazed, surprised, humbled, and stuffed to the gills with delicious food, book this tour.Matt

March 26, 2022I signed up for this tour to get an introduction to food and what I received was so much more. I knew I had made the right choice in tour… read more at the first stop with the breakfast foods made from indigenous ingredients and traditional recipes. It was the food/agricultural/cultural/religious and political information and context that went with every step of the tour that made the day such a worthwhile and entertaining day. In total, I think we made 8 or 9 stops and almost all included several different items to taste. I came home with enough food for another two delicious meals. I’m going to tell all my friends that come to Mexico that is is a “must do” activity in Puebla.
